Mel Robbins may be the only keynote speaker we know who gives audiences a succinct, clear and unabashed formula for the steps you need to find your own individual success and meet every life-changing goal you’ve ever had.
Her TED talks on The Five Second Rule have been seen by millions of people and have changed lives all over the world.
Mel teaches a very simple truth – the way to success is to respond to your own first impulse without hesitation, and then to do exactly the opposite of what your brain tells you to do!
In her incredible keynote, Mel explains how the brain functions in ways that often thwart our success and explains how to make best use of that original impulse.
Meet – The Five Second Rule!
Mel Robbins introduces audience to her simple technique known as the 5 Second Rule whereby the moment she hears an internal positive message (“I should get out of bed!”), she’s trained herself to immediately count backwards from 5 (5-4-3-2-1), because she knows that the moment after she receives that positive message her brain will flood her with all the reasons why she should stay in bed (or not follow through on the positive impulse).
The sad truth that Mel teaches is that we’ve taught ourselves to wait ‘until we feel like it’ but as she explains, WE NEVER FEEL LIKE IT!!
So, if we’re a bit overweight and we see a great looking slice of chocolate cake, we can easily remind ourselves to ‘start that diet TOMORROW’. If we get an idea for a life changing business or the Great American Novel, we simply file it away as our brain goes to work talking us out of the effort involved.
We have to train ourselves to respond without hesitation to those magnificent positive impulses in almost the same way parents teach their children to do the things they don’t want to do. What kids actually want to do the dishes, their homework, take out the family trash or do anything similar without being asked multiple times?? Those kids function just like your brain does.
In her life-changing keynote speech, Mel would simply suggest that you respond to your higher and better impulse by immediately counting backward from 5 and then, after that short distraction, make the harder choice.
Mel helps us all understand that if you want to make your dreams come true, you have to do the very things you resist and that make you uncomfortable. And preventing you from being uncomfortable is one of your brain’s main jobs!
Want to meet and then exceed your goals? Then get ready for it to be difficult and stay with that original impulse (what Mel Robbins calls the micro-moment) without HESITATION.
You can believe Mel Robbins when she says that she really wants to help you improve your life. If you haven’t tried The Five Second Rule, give it a shot. As Mel would say, when you’re ready for it, it’s going to be there for you.
