“By the time CBS’ 60 Minutes profiled National Geographic photographer Joel Sartore, Joel’s quest to photograph each of the 12,000 animal species in human care in the world was over half complete. He figures it will take another 10 years to complete the task, but along the way Joel Sartore’s keynote speeches—whether live or virtually—are geared to not only share some amazing images with his viewers, but to help Joel accomplish his personal goal of showing the world what biodiversity actually looks like and get everyone to care about saving species while there’s still time.

Time is key here, as many of these species are destined to not survive. But with 34,986 images in his Photo Ark currently, Joel knows that his Ark will survive the test of time. As Joel states, “All species are vitally important to our very survival; we need bees and even flies to pollinate the fruits and vegetables we eat. We need intact rain forests to regulate the amount of rainfall we get in areas where we grow crops.
